Saiklang Maier-Horbut Pai

Saiklang Maier-Horbut Pai

Born in Surat-Thani, Thailand 1975

Pai grew up in a family of artists. She learned from a very young age until she was 15 years old to draw figuration, moulding, casting and batik techniques and her father took her out often to paint in nature with watercolours. While being very young, she dreamt of becoming an artist and even though her parents encouraged her to continue pursuing her artistic talents, she ended up finishing her studies outside the field of art.

Biography

In 1998 she found herself back into art while she was working in a small Island in the Andaman Sea. She was fascinated by different Batik techniques and took lessons from an English artist.

In the years 1999-2000 she had a solo Batik exhibition in Gamle Slakterhus (Haugesund) Norway, with the title “Picture with the meaning”. She made Millennium-cards for Primex Ingredients A/S (Haugesund) Norway and held a group exhibition in Stavanger, Norway. She participated in another group exhibition at Gallery Pai on the opening day. This gallery was owned by Pai’s friend in the old town of Stavanger.

From 2001 to 2004, whilst living in Ecuador, she mastered some Ecuadorian techniques: how to work with pewter as well as ceramic work. In Ecuador she successfully held a private exhibition at home.

From 2012 to 2014 she took classes in Switzerland at Atelier-13 with a Swiss artist to study Monotype and Acrylic techniques.

In 2014 she moved to Iran. People, culture and landscape have inspired her work on the collection “Iran through my Eyes”.
